what to expect
How long is the worship service?
It's about an hour. A typical service begins with music - song lyrics are projected onto the screens so you can sing along. We have time for prayer and sharing, a time just for kids, and then our pastor shares a Jesus-centered message. But, we are also quite non-traditional. About every other week we practice multivocal community, passing the mic and offering space for responding to the service from the week before. No one is forced to give a word, but we believe that God is speaking to all people and that community is developed as we hear from one another. In the coming weeks and months we will also be experimenting with our services. We seek to find more life-giving ways of worshipping together that lead to living life as followers of Jesus.
What's it like at Summit Street?
Sundays at Summit Street are very casual and relaxed. So, you can wear whatever is comfortable. Bring your coffee mug because there is coffee. But, seriously, come as you are. Whether you’re a believer, non-believer, someone with questions, or anyone in between, you are welcome here!
what about kids?
We are all about them! Kids typically stay with us in the sanctuary on Sunday mornings. In fact, we work to consistently get them involved in the service. We have a special activity bag with some fun things they can do which you can pick up on your way in (if you need that).
We understand that children make noise, get the wiggles, and may need to move around. That’s all OK at Summit Street! We encourage you to sit wherever you’re comfortable, explain to children what’s going on, participate so children can watch and imitate you. You can always step out and come back if your children ( or you) need a break. We have a kid's play room with lots of toys where you can stay with your kids and still hear the service.
